| | My husband was down in Montana overnight on business and I was home alone when it happened. It was my first pregnancy, and we were so looking forward to having a child. It snowed all day on January 22, and we got about 3 feet, and so naturally that night, while I was in the bathroom, my water broke. I didn't know what was going on at first, since I had never had a baby before, but when the contractions started coming strong I figured it out. I called Greg at the hotel that he was staying at and told him that I was in labour. He told me he was on his way, and asked if I could get to the hospital. I told him that there's was way too much snow, and noone could ever get this far up the mountain even in time anyway. I also reminded him that he had left the truck at the airport in Nome so that he could drive back when his plane came in, so I couldn't go anywhere on my own. He told me that he had to go and try to get a flight, so he told me he loved me and hung up the phone. We had talked for nearly 2 hours, and my contractions were getting progressively worse. Even if he could get a flight, he wouldn't be back for 5 hours at the earliest, and I doubted that I had that much time. I moved into the living room and lay down on the couch, feeling the contractions. I tried to breath with them, but they hurt extrememly badly. Around 3;30 in the morning I felt the need to start pushing. I bore down and used a mirror to see what was going on. The baby's head crowned, then came the body, and then the whole baby boy was in my arms. I wrapped him the best I could, but then I felt another strong contraction. I thought it was the placenta, and I bore down to help push it out. After a couple of pushes, though, i saw something familiar in the mirror. A couple more pushes and I had yet another baby boy in my arms. Then the placenta came and I cleaned up my sons, then layed them in their crib. I was exhausted, so I finally went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, my husband was just getting there on a snowmobile. He was overjoyed to have two sons, and we went to the hospital to make sure everybody was ok. We were all fine, and now I have them, a little girl, and another on the way!
