Dipeababy's Story
Makenna
9/29/2000
I started out going to have a homebith. The day before she was born we went and had a ultrasound. The ultrasound showed the baby to be only 6.10 lbs. ( she ended up being 6.5lbs)Amniotic levels of only 6cm. This was very scary for us. We had to make a decision of to try and hope the levels could be replinished or go ahead with a induction. We decided to go with the induction cause I had went into labor numerous times. One night I went all the way to 7cm and went completly back down! So here is our story. Hope you enjoy! For a Hospital birth it was truly wonderful!

Friday morning we got up got boys ready for school. Give them lots of hugs and kisses! Explained to them that baby sissy was coming today. Austin (8) was upset cause he wanted me to still have her at home so he could cut the cord. I explained to him why we had to go to the hospital and that it was best for his sister to be born where if we need help it was there. Ethan (5) was ok and understood what was going on.
Called the hospital and said they had a bed. So we knew then that it was going to be the day we would probably finally get to hold our baby! My Mom & Stepdad came to get Tristan (2) about 8:30am and we were on our way. Left about 9am. We stopped at Hardee's thinking we wouldn't be able to eat after we got there. Seems like the wait for the food took forever! Alan & I talked we really was connected. I let him know how much I would need him today and he
assured me he was there for me.
(He was wonderful couldn't have did it without him!)
Finally about 10:20 am we got to the hospital. Took us forever to get checked in. We finally went to the L&D floor. Got my room. Got all the 101 Questions. Got a saline lock. Doctor came in talked to us got the scoop on things. I talked with him about the Cyotec (the induction pill) and my birth choices. At this time he checked me he said I was at 3-3½ cm 70% effaced and -2 station. We inserted the pill (have to get times from MW.) He said it
should take about 4 or less hours for it to work. I had to lay in bed for 2 hours! While we were waiting I got a hospital meal and Alan went to Taco Bell. Midwife went to cafe'. After 2 hours we were able to get up and walk.
It started a line of pattern contractions every 3 - 5 min. We got monitored for 10 min then we went outside several times for walking. The walking really helped. Although the contractions where not very strong, almost like the ones just as I had been having for weeks. I had to make quite a few potty stops too cause all the water I was drinking. We went back to the room for another monitor on the baby and contractions. Doctor came back again and
checked me said I was 4cm -1. (I think that was about 1:30-2:00) So he let us keep walking and getting monitored for 10 min every hour. Alan had went again and got us some food from AW. I had a footlong hotdog with fries and a Dr.Pepper. We were looking out the window at the beautiful mountains of the Smokeys. Watching planes flying together! It was so cool!! We also watched the Olympics all day too. It was about 3 hours from the last time the
doctor had checked me. I was only maybe a 4½ and still -1 station. My bag was bulging so he decided to break my water this was at 10 till 5:00. After he left I got monitored for maybe 20-30 min. We decided to go walk again and try to get things going. Midwife stayed behind to make a few phone calls. So Alan & I went on our own this time. I was having ok contractions but, still not great ones.(Some was stronger than others) I was getting so tired of
walking. I said lets go back to the room. I went straight to the bath room had 2 contractions on the potty that started to really get my attention. I YELLED for Alan! He came in and was rubbing my back while I sat on the toilet. Midwife asked if I wanted to get in the shower and I said yes. Alan helped me into the shower. It had rails and a seat built in it. I sit on the seat for about 2 contractions and was really hurting now!! The I had a big one that I stood up and
grabbed onto the bars and would end up in a squatting position. Mooing like a big cow by this time! The nurse must have heard me to come in. I had maybe 2 of these and told the Midwife to ask the nurse to check me cause if I was at 6 or something I wanted something! I was hurting so BAD!! She came in and Marilee helped hold me up to let the nurse check me. Alan wiping me off with a towel. The nurse was like I have never checked anyone standing up
before! Marilee explained how to do it and the nurse got on her knees and she said 8-9cm. I said "Lets go!" Alan grabbed the video camera got it recording. Got on to the bed and with next contraction I felt my body pushing so I pushed with it. Midwife said I can see her head. I was mooing like a cow between the contraction the pressure was so much on me that was the only way to relieve it at all! It was more like chanting Owwww owwwww
owwwww owwww owwwww. LOL. I felt the next contraction coming and I jumped up after the nurse in my evil voice and said "YOU GIVE ME SOMETHING FOR THIS PAIN NOW!!" I was on my side rolled over and out came her head! I was feeling of her head and The Midwife was holding the mirror while Alan grabbed the camera to get a shot of her head out. About this time the doctor came in and they told him "DR! We have a head!" He just looked at me and
said you want to deliver the baby yourself? I said YES!! Here came the next contraction I reached for her head and then as more of her body came out I grabbed on to her body and pulled her to my chest. It was wonderful! The greatest experience I have ever had in my life!!!!
I did it all by myself!! Then it was just pure joy of holding my daughter. I was crying Alan was sobbing it was wonderful!
We have our Daughter! (I checked to make sure :O)
I could tell she was tiny. I said she is my littlest baby I have ever had I just know it. So at 6:17pm September 29th Makenna Brooke was born! 6lbs .5oz 19½ inches long. Within the first 10 min she was already nursing! (trying to help get placenta out too) Her APGARS was 9-9. (her hands and feet was a little blue) I didn't tear with her and my bottom dont hurt either!
So this is my story! Took all day to get it going but, once she decided to come she decided to come! She is such a wonderful blessing to our family!! I finally feel like I got my circle complete now!
