bubblebuny's Story
Carrie
11/23/1991
This was my 1st pregnancy. I was 16 when I became pregnant and had been married for a little over 6 months.
I was due 11/26/1991 but my Dr. told me on 11/22/91 that he was afraid the baby was getting too big, although I had had no complications other than being diagnosed with gallstones. He thought we should deliver the next day. We agreed, figuring Dr.s know best.
I was admitted to the hospital at 7:00 am 11/23/91 and given an enema, shaved, IV. At 10:00 am my water was broken and I was given an epidural. I never felt the first contraction. I don't remember what time it was when we started pushing but I know I pushed for quite some time, and I had to be told when to push since I couldn't feel anything!
At around 6:00 pm I was taken to the delivery room and pushed some more. It made me mad to look toward the door and see several of the staff WATCHING me give birth. This was so rude!
I had to have an epesiotomy and forceps were used to deliver my baby. At 6:31 pm Carrie Elizabeth was born. She weighed 7 lbs 13 oz and was 20 inches long.
My bp shot through the roof and I was given some medication that put me in "la-la" land. We took a few pictures that I don't even remember taking. When my husband showed them to me I was like, hey when did we take these?
A little while later I was informed that Carrie had jaundice. The Dr. also said wow, she's not as big as I thought she was going to be. My husband was furious!
He wanted to punch the Dr. right there. We decided at that point to never be induced with any future pregnancies.
Carrie had to stay in the hospital an extra day, and it was so hard leaving my tiny little girl in the hospital. When she came home she had to use the lights to help her jaundice for a couple of weeks. It wasn't fair. I belive now that she truly wasn't ready to be born at that time. She needed a few more days.
She is a beautiful little girl now, 9 years old. Her only health problems have been appendicitis in May 2000.
I urge anyone who is looking to be induced for such a minor reason to re-think the idea. It may not be the best thing for you and your baby.
Read my 2nd story, Sarah Nicole, born 2/16/93 and see how that goes...
