| Here is our story: This was my first baby,(my husband has 2 children from previous marriage) and was supposedly due around June 8, 1999. I had an pretty good pregnancy, gained only 20 1/2 lbs., and felt pretty good. We did have a scare when my alpha-feta protein test came back high, so we had an amino and everything turned out to be okay. So we knew he was a boy and we were soooo ready for him!!!! On Sunday, May 30, around 8AM, I started having some contractions. I called my doctor, who was actually on-call at the hospital, and he said if they continue and feel stronger to go on to the hospital. I called my parents, and sister and everyone got ready to go. My husband & I got my bag together and we headed to the hospital. I had contractions all the way there. When we got there they sent me to the maternity ward and put me in a room. A nurse came in to check on me, I was dilated to about 3. She said I could walk or take a bath or whatever. I never saw a doctor. I walked around, felt more contractions, and generally felt crappy!! I continued to have contractions, but only dilated to 4 and so they gave me some demural and let me sleep for the night. I did not sleep well, I kept having mild contractions, and then the next day came. On onday May 31(Memorial Day), I was having major contractions, crying, and hanging on to the bed!!!!!!!! They hooked up my penicillan to my IV(tested postive for Group B strep) and were preparing for my delivery. At this point, I finally saw the on-call doctor(never met him before this time), he said I would have the baby today even if they did a C-section!!!! I was upset, my husband was upset, my parents were upset!!! I decided to have an epideral because I just could not take the pain any longer. No one told me how horrible that was!! I had to sit up, during these horrid contractions and be still while this huge needle goes in my back. After it was done I felt sooooo relaxed I almost went to sleep!!!! 30 minutes later I was completely dilated, effaced etc. I started pushing and pop out comes my son! He had a little meconium on him so they had to clean him and check him while I am laying on the bed freaking out! Finally they hand the crying boy to me & I knew everything had been worth it! He weighed 5lbs, 3 oz, with extra cord attached, after they took it off he only weighed 5lbs!! He was 19 inches long. He was tiny and my parents bought him some preemie clothes, because everything we had was too big! We are still nursing and he is awesome!!!!!
