bethmp313's Story
cindy
3/25/2000
Cindy is my 3rd baby. She was due march 20th. For a week before her birth i was having prodromal labor-on and off. 3 days before her birth it all atopped and there was nothing. On the 24th of March i went in for a check up to the midwifery center. I was 4 cm dialated and 70 % effaced. My midwife said she expected me anytime( although she had been saying that for 2 weeks!). I picked my mother up at the airport and took my 2 and 3 year olds to McDonalds for lunch. Then we came back to my house. Mom and i went to the store to pick up dinner but i found it was so hard to sit or walk because the baby was so far down. Around 8 pm i was feeling very uncomfortable and decided to go lay down, which kinda turned into family bed time and we all went asleep. I woke T 11:30 pm with contractons about 6 minutes apart and because i was already 4 cm my midwife said to come in, as I had 2 fast births before.
We got to the midwifery center around 1 am. My husband, 2 kids, mother, best friend and a doula were all there, although labor seemed to stall out. We walked for about an hour and then decided to lay down. Mom and my best friend took the kids home. Tom and i just laid there drifting in and out of sleep. The contractions were only about 8 minutes apart but strong enough to relax through.
My midwife wanted to jump start my labor so i got in the tub. It was about 5 30 am and instantly we were in active labor with contractions being 1 1/2 - 2 minutes apart. I stayed there for about 45 minutes then sat on the toilet for 20 minutes. THen i got back in the tub. I was starting to feel pressure like and urge to push and whith each contraction i could feel the baby slide gently down the birth canal.I was laughing and talking through all of it, barely feeling any pain but just the power of it all. My midwife checked me and i was still at only 5 cm but she said to give little pushes if i had to. Because of my last 2 babies being so big ( 9.6 and 10.8) she did not want me birthing in the tub. I decided to get out and by the time i made it from the tub to the bed, i was squatting and pushing. My husband got on the bed behind me and my midwife checked and said i had only a lip of cervix left. She pushed it back and at the same time my mother came in with the kids. Cindy crowned at the first push but it scared me because i thought i was going to tear so i stopped pushing and waited for the next contraction, and out she came!!!
She was my smallest baby at 9.1 pounds 20 1/2 inches. I actually got to deliver her myself by putting my hands in her armpits and lifting her out. My mother cut the cord after it stopped pulsating and she nursed right away. The other kids joined us in the bed and we stayed there for a long tiome talking about our new little one.
It was the most exilirating experience of my life. Her birth left me feeling so empowered and strong. I can't waIT till next time!!!
