| Our story or the story of Eli and his arrival ... My due date was January 10th having beenpost term with my other two I fully expected to do the same with this one. My first was a c-sectdue to a transverse presentaion after two failed attempts to rotate her into a head down position. My second was a miserable induction but a fairly easy delivery after pushing through three contractions. Both of these experiences made me determined not to have another induction. It was December 28 ,about eight thirty, my husbands family was still lingering in the living room and I feeling quite achey decided to lie and rest awhile. Finding no comfortable position; I got into the shower to try and relax. By ten 0'clock I was fairly certain I was in labor I was contracting every 2-3 min but they weren't very intense so I decided to wait and call my doctor. Around midnight I began to get fairly uncomfortable and decided to go ahead and call . I called and he said I should come in by 1 so they could "check" me Nowm being a nurse I know the routine and I really wasn't looking forward to the hospital but I went in anyway. I arrived slipped into the gown and between contractions still every 2-3 min the nurse checked me. I was 3.5cm 100%effaced . To make a long story short I sat on the birth ball, walked, stompped, and squatted for 12 hours and left the next day at 3.5cm and100z%effaced after my Dr. decided he just wasn't ready to come. By Jan 5th I could barely walk and had gained 10lbs in a week of fluid. My doctor decided it would be best since I was still contracting to strip my membranes and see if we could move this along before I got to sick to have a vag delivery. (the idea of mag sulfate and another c-section did not appeal to me) He was giving me until Friday and then he was going to induce again. Fortunately , I got a reprive on Friday the L&D unit was full and I was off the hook. However, Sunday rolled around and now confined to bed I greatlfully accepted my scheduled 08:30 induction. Nothing happened at all untill 11:30 when my doc came in and broke my water then the contactions hit like a freight train.(no pitocin) At one o'clock not having the best coach in the world I began begging for the epidural. Unfortunately, no one bothered to remind that I was in transition an so ten min after the epidural went in Eli entered the world 9lbs9oz. He was so beautiful ...the doctor placed him on my tummy and waited the for the cord to stop pulsating before he ask my husband if he'd like to cut it . My mom volunteered as my husband turned a little green. Unfortunately I was having a hard time stimulating eli, because I was having some residual effects of the narcotic used in my epidural and had loss a substantial amount of blood from a 3rd degree laceration (despite weeks of peri-massage) and he was a little blue so the nurses took him across the room and got him going. I am so greatful I was able to nurse him within about ten min. and he hasn't quit since.( What a beautiful plan god has made so we can recover from our battle scars ang get well aquainted with our new family member. As he nurses I stroke his head and gaze at the miracle god has entrusted me with.)
