| | My husband and I were told we would be unable to ever carry a baby full term because of a heart condition I had been born with. Fortunately with a little time and a few more case studies the doctors were able to re-evalute and give us the go ahead to try to get pregnant a couple of years ago. So month after frustating month of negative ept's and making my husband give up hot showers and jogging - we finally found out WE (around the fourth month of pregnancy I quite saying "we") were pregnant. Because this was classified as a "high risk" pregnancy there were tons of tests and ultrasounds just in the first few months alone. I went along with all of them - even though they tend to give so much added stress. The only one I refused was the amnio - I did'nt feel in my case it was needed and way to risky for the baby. Yes, you CAN tell your doctor no, sometimes you get so caught up in the shuffle of whats best for your baby according to the "experts" we loose that inner mommy voice. Well, everything calmed down and all the results were normal. I carried complication free until 38 weeks,at that point I did start having some extra strain, chest pains and we had to induce. I was already dialated to 4 and 100% effaced when I went in. I would like to say if your considering inducement make sure your close because the iv's, medications and medical intervention is a pain ( to say the least) for me I only had to go through 7 hours, I was induced at noon and by 7:30 p.m. I dialated to 10 - and 1 1/2 contractions later out came my little angel. Lexie weighed 7lbs. 7 oz. and she is beautiful. She started nursing right away and I have no idea how we are going to wean in a few months. She is worth everything, so strong and healthy, our little miracle. She just woke up so I'm being summoned. Who knew she would be royalty?!
