| My contractions and bloody show began a few days before my "due date". I thought for sure this second baby woul be a little early. Then on my due date (Nov. 18) all day I was having pretty regular contrations and calle my midwife at about 10:00pm and she said to head to bed, that I would probably wake up in full labor. I got ready for bed and was walking to the bathroom and my water broke all over the hall an the bathroom floor. I called my midwife back and she said to go to bed. I went to bed an woke up the next morning to NO contractions, I was SOOOO frustrated! My midwife came over and started me on the home induction kit. (blue cohosh, black cohosh and cotton root) She encouraged me to relax and ensured that I would not be pregnant forever. She was awsome! I did the home induction kit for two days and became more and more frustrated. I was getting bad vibes from some people because my water had been broken for so long and no contractions were in sight. My midwife and I were cautious of infection and I was taking echinachea and taking my tempeture every 3-4 hours to be sure there was no sign of infection and nothing in the vagina. I took this frustrating time to get really close with my husband and we read the book "Spiritual Midwifery" by Ina May Gaskin. It was what we needed since there was little time for ourselves with a two year old running around. On the fifth day he was born!! I woke up after four days of no contractios and my family thinking I was crazy and needed to go to the hospital and decided that I would go in for an ultrasound to be sure my baby had enough fluid and to "shut everyone up". Though I must say the whole time my midwife was encouraging and much like an angel guiding my and allowing me to trust my body. The ultrasound said everything was great and in no danger. When we all got home my midwife cindy was very stern about me taking CASTOR OIL uggg! I had taken it with my first child to try to avoid a hospital induction and it failed, I also almost puked. I reluctantly got the castor oil and frozen concentrated cranberry juice out and put it in the blender. I chugged half an ounce and gagged. I went to bed at 11:30pm and woke at 2:00am with some good steady contactions, I slept in between contraction until 3:30am and then I woke my husband. I had him call the midwife and she was there by 4:30am. I had a few good contractions and around 6:30am my midwife checked me and I was 5cm ahhh i got in the tub. I styed in an hour and got out to relax in my room. I lyed in bed with my husband and cats and listened to the sounds of my other son Tristan playing the other room for a few hours. Through out all my contractions I let my mouth me open and relaxed and smiled. Every one there laughed when I would smile, they knew I was having a good contraction! It helped so much to surrender to my body and let my cervix OPEN. I did alot of open mouth moaning and relaxing. I started having urges to push and my midwife checked me, I was 7cm and would have to hold on. I then got in the shower. I got out and my midwife said to set on the birth chair and stool. I did not enjoy all the pressure on my bottom with no urges to push. All my labor support people put all my pillows on my bed so I was in a sitting position. I sat there and began feeling uges to push, it was about 12:45pm and by 12:50 I was holding my baby boy. My husband Joe helped place him immediatly on my stomach. We waited until the placenta stopped pulsing and then we both cut the cord. almost right after while nursing my placenta came out. We bonded and nursed the I took another shower. I got out and my miwife called me over to say that my placenta had two sacs!! It was wild and we learned that my baby was never in danger of infection because his sac was the one that popped while i was pushing. She said that it is possible that for a week or two I may have been carrying twins. It was by far the most amazing birth! It was so easy and relaxing, I never felt overwhelmed and uncomfortable. This is probably our last child but I would have that birth a million times, it was beautiful and never painful.
