Painted Rocks
InstructionsSupply List
  1. Gather Several Smooth Rocks
  2. Color Designs on it with Crayons. Liberally Apply Crayon.
  3. Cover a Cookie Sheet with Foil
  4. Put the Rocks on top of the Foil and Bake at 200 degrees for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from Oven and Let Cool.
  6. Using the Sock Polish the Rocks.

Musical Maracas

  1. Blow up Two Balloons.Place the below mixture in a Shallow Pan
  2. Dip Strips of Newspapers in the Mixture and Place on the Balloons.
  3. Cover Entire Balloon except Right Around the Tied End
  4. Let Dry
  5. Cover Each with a Second Layer and Let Dry Completely Again
  6. Pop the Balloons
  7. Use a Funnel and Fill with Dried Beans and/or Rice
  8. Cover the Hole with Dipped Newspapers
  9. Let Dry Completely
  10. Sand the Outside of the Maracas
  11. Paint

3/4 c cold Water
1 c FlourMix Together to Form a Runny Glue Mixture. Place in a Shallow Pan for Dipping

  1. Glue Figurine to the Inside of the Jar's Lid
  2. Let the Glue Dry Overnight
  3. Add Glitter, Confetti or Other Plastic Toys to the Empty Jar
  4. Pour Distilled Water in the Jar filling almost to the top
  5. Add a Small Amount of Detergent or Corn Syrup to allow the Items to Float Better
  6. Put Glue all around the top of the Jar
  7. Put Figurine and Lid into the Jar - Some Water may Spill out whcih is fine. The Jar must be completely Full of Water to avoid Bubbles
  8. Screw Lid on Tightly
  9. Carefully wrap Teflon Tape smoothly around the Lid Edge to prevent Leaks
  10. Let Dry
  11. If desired make a Base for your Globe with Model Magic Clay
  • Glass Jar with Secure Lid
  • Distilled Water
  • Figurine (Pez Dispenser, etc)
  • Glitter, Plastic Confetti or Wiggly Eyes
  • Plastic Spiders or other Waterproof Toys
  • Corn Syrup or Dish Soap
  • Teflon Sealing Tape
  • Thick Tacky White Craft Glue

  1. Take a clean half gallon milk carton.
  2. Cut a 2 inch tall and 1 1/2 inch wide hole in one side for the opening.
  3. *Poke a small hole in the top of the carton and feed string through it to hang it up later.
  4. Use twigs, bark, leaves, etc. and cover the entire carton.
  5. Use either white glue or a hot glue gun* to adhere the items to your carton.
  6. If you use white glue cover one side of the carton with glue and then arrange twigs.
  7. Let each side completely dry before you go onto the next side.
  8. Screw Lid on Tightly
  9. Use twigs to cover the top to form a roof. Also use twigs on the bottom to form perches for the birds.
  10. Let Dry Completely before hanging outside.

Crystal Rock Garden
*Requires Adult Supervision

  1. In a bowl combine salt, bluing, water and ammonia.
  2. Place glass bowl in the pie tim or on a piece of cardboard. Crystals may grow over the sides of the bowl.
  3. Place rocks or coal in the glass bowl.
  4. Pour mixture over rocks.
  5. Drizzle food coloring over mixture
  6. Crystals will begin to grow in about an hour. Larger Formations will develop within days.
  7. Continue adding water to keep the crystals growing.
  8. Keep out of Reach of Small Children
  • Shallow Glass Bowl (Must be Glass)
  • Pie Tin or Piece of Cardboard
  • Small Rocks or Coal
  • 6 T Salt
  • 6 T Bluing (Found in the Laundry Section)
  • 6T Water
  • 1 T Ammonia
  • Food Coloring

For Ages 7 and Up
CAUTION: Bluing and Ammonia should be used with caution. Do not touch with hands.
Make a Book

  1. Cut out two identical rectangular pieces of thin cardboard - from a cereal box, etc.
  2. Then cut 2 pieces of fabric that are 2 inches longer on all sides than the cardboard pieces.
  3. Cover one side of each piece of cardboard with a thin layer of glue and place on a table glue side up.
  4. Center a piece of fabric over each piece of cardboard and press down on the glue.
  5. Turn the cardboard pieces over fabric side down and a line from the edge of the corner of the fabric to the corner of the cardboard. Repeat for all four corners.
  6. Glue the edges of the fabric down on the inside of the cardboard.
  7. Cut two more pieces of fabric (preferable a different color) in the shape of a rectangle one inch smaller than the piece of cardboard.
  8. Glue on the inside of your cardboard pieces to hide the edges of the overlapped fabric.
  9. Lay the two pieces of cardboard on top of each other with the overlapping sides both in.
  10. On the side of the "book" that you want the binding to be mark three dots on each piece of cardboard , line them up on both pieces of cardboard.
  11. Take your hole punch and punch 6 holes where you marked on the fabric/cardboard.
  12. Cut acid-free (available at craft store) paper to the same size as the cardboard.
  13. Cut hole punch in the paper in the same place as the holes are in the cardboard.
  14. Place the two cardboard pieces and all pieces of paper together, hole punches lined up.
  15. Align a piece of cloth ribbon up with the center hole punch and make it long enough to go around the book and then tie. Cut at desired length.
  16. Cut a hole through the ribbon at the middle hole punch. Glue the ribbon down to the fabric in the middle on both sides of the book.
  17. Thread string through each hole punch and tie in a double knot. Cut off the excess string. OR use a metal ring clasp that opens and closes.
  18. Tie the ends of the ribbon together.

Make a Bracelet

  1. Cut a piece of elastic 2 inches longer than your wrist.
  2. Sew on different kinds of buttons - start 1 inch from the end.
  3. Sew buttons all along the bracelet until 1 inch from the other end.
  4. To sew on a button, thread a needle, push it throught the elastic where you want the button
  5. Thread the needle up through the back of the buttonhole.
  6. Put the button down on the elastic and thread the needle back through another hole and through the elastice.
  7. Do this several times crisscrossing the thread back and forth from hole to hole.
  8. To finish run the thread and needle through the back of the stiching of the button several time and then cut the thread.
  9. After all buttons on sewn onto the elastic overlap the two ends and then sew them together using small stitches.
  10. Cover the overlapped area with more sewn on buttons.

Make Pinwheels

Instructions

Supply List
  1. On your paper using a pencil and ruler measure out an 8 inch square.
  2. On the bakcside of the paper draw one line from each corner to the opposite corner - forming an "X" in the middle of the square.
  3. Place the penny in the center of the "X" and outline the penny using the pencil.
  4. Fold each corner of the square down to the center - then crease the folds.
  5. Now you have 4 triangles - cut from each corner between each triangle to the outlined penny circle.
  6. Bend (DO NOT FOLD) every other triangle corner down to the center of the square.
  7. Push the pin through every bended triangle corner - one at a time, then push the pin through the center of the square.
  8. Now place a pony bead on the pin behind the pinwheel.
  9. Then about 1/2 inch from the end of the balsa wood handle push the pin through.
  10. On the other side of the wood cover the end of the pin with an eraser.
  • Scissors

  • 12-inch Piece of 1/4 inch Balsa Wood
  • Straight Pins with Large Heads
  • Large Pony Bead
  • Eraser from the End of a Pencil
  1. Using Caution, Punch 2 hole in the top, middle of two opposite sides of the box.
  2. Thread the ribbon from the inside out through both holes of the box.
  3. When the handle is the length that you want tie a large knot on either side of the outside of the hole in the box. Cut off remaining ribbon.
  4. Using the ruler measure the width and height of each of the five panels of the inside of the box.
  5. Cut out five pieces of lightweight cardboard 1/2 inch smaller than the measurements of each of the five inside panels.
  6. Cover one side of the lightweight cardboard piece with glue and glue fabric to it. Trim the sides and the glue the edges to the back of the fabric lines side.
  7. After all five panels have been covered with fabric - allow to completely dry.
  8. Insert the bottom panel first into the box and the place the four side panels.
  9. Glue Buttons, Jelly beans, etc. to the outside of the box - one at a time.
  10. Add additional fabric bow to the side of each handle if desired.
  11. Let Basket completely dry before use.
