Myth Coupons are Useless after the Expiration Date
Reality Most Stores have a Time Frame for Which they must mail the coupons to the manufacturers for redemption. Ask your grocery store manager if they accept expired coupons.
Myth Warehouse Clubs are the Cheapest Place to Shop for Food
Reality Warehouse food is largely convenience and frozen food which is costly in general. Compare prices. Grocery Store Generic and Sale Items are often less expensive than Warehouse Counterparts and Warehouses don’t take coupons and you have to pay for membership. Warehouses often sell medicine cheaper and miscellaneous other items.
Myth The Gas you use Shopping at Different Stores does not Justify the Savings
Reality Shopping at Stores that are within 10 miles of each other will use very little gas and the Savings can be enormous. Buy Sale and best Buy Items at each store and then buy the rest of your shopping list at the Store with the overall lowest prices.
Myth Manufacturers only put out Coupons for Junk Food and Convenience Food
Reality Many Coupons are for Nonessential or Junk Food but there are plenty of Useful Coupons for Canned Food, Toiletries and Other Everyday Items. If you are in a Coupon Swap or Train you can even get multiples of these coupons and stock up when the item goes on sale.
Myth Spices are just expensive.
RealityPaxkaged spices bought at the grocery sotre are extremely expensive. Look at the shelf label. Spices are often $35-$55 per pound. For the best prices on spices check the Bulk Dept. If your Grocery Store Does not Carry Bulk Spices visit your Local Health Foods Store. Dolar stores also offer spices for $1 each. The containers vary in wieght but the prices range from $6 - $10 per pound.
Myth Nonfood Items are the Same Price at Grocery Stores and Discount Department Stores
Reality Most Toiletries and Household Items can be bought regularly at Discount Drugstores or Discount Dept. Stores for a 25% or more savings over Grocery Store Prices.
Myth Items Sold on the End of the Grocery Aisles are on Sale
Reality Grocery Stores often Display their Advertised Sale Items on the Endcaps but they also display regular priced items often right along side the sale items for spontaneous shopping.
Myth Generic Foods is of Poorer Quality and Has more Fillers.
Reality Many of the Generic Brands are Packaged by the Same Companies as the Leading Brands. Read the Ingredients. You might be surprised that the Generic Version often has the exact same ingredients as its name brand counterpart. |
