Just think of all the things a family could do with $3200.
If on your child's 2nd birthday you took just $2000 of the savings from practicing Attachment Parenting, put it in a Certificate of Deposit.****** Your child would have $7700 to spend on higher education when they were 18. They will need alot more than that but it will help out.
Put simply less is best for children. The love you give and the time you spend with your child will outweigh any toy or gadget.
The above details two extreme parenting styles. Many people will do a combination of the two. Some parents set up a whole nursery only to find that they would rather have their child in their own bed, some Attachment Mothers go back to work and must pump, due to increased education women are on average breastfeeding for longer periods, and so on.

The above just gives you an idea of how many of the items that we are marketed to buy really are not necessary to raise a healthy, happy baby.

Start with the Basic Baby Supplies and go from there. Weigh items by how long the child will use them, how necessary they are, and their resale value. The above prices reflect average retail prices. You can find high quality second hand baby items through Online Auctions, Consignment Stores, Resale Boutiques and Thrift Stores. New discounted items that are factory seconds or overstocks can be found at dollar stores or at Ross Dress for Less Stores. Allow yourself a 24 hour waiting period on major purchasing to cut down on impulsive buying.
The above retail averages were based on current products prices at Toys R' Us and Kmart
